ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has played a pivotal role in facilitating ceasefire negotiations between two opposing sides, helping bring them face-to-face after decades of strained relations.
The diplomatic push was spearheaded by Ishaq Dar, whose efforts as a mediator were acknowledged by both parties.
Officials revealed that the process involved nearly 31 hours of continuous engagement, including several rounds of talks. While meaningful progress was achieved and some positive outcomes emerged, the dispute remains deeply complex, shaped by long-standing differences and external pressures.
Authorities noted that the final outcomeswhether successful or limited were influenced by internal factors within both sides. Nonetheless, Pakistan’s contribution toward fostering peace and dialogue at both regional and global levels has been widely appreciated.
Meanwhile, remarks from JD Vance indicated cautious optimism, highlighting proposals discussed during the mediation phase.
Officials added that both sides now better understand each other’s positions, which could help guide future negotiations. However, Pakistan has chosen not to disclose specific details of the talks, emphasizing the sensitive and confidential nature of the process and reiterating that its role was confined to facilitation.
