ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN: A senior Pakistani delegation reached Tehran on Wednesday, as Pakistan maintains its role in facilitating diplomatic contacts between the United States and Iran.
The delegation is headed by Asim Munir, who holds the position of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, and includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. They were received at the airport by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, highlighting ongoing diplomatic coordination between the two sides.
The visit is part of Pakistan’s continued efforts to act as a mediator in the evolving dialogue between Washington and Tehran. Diplomatic sources indicate that preparations are underway in Islamabad for a possible second round of talks, expected later this month, with authorities already working on logistical and security arrangements.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that communication between the two sides has remained active following recent discussions held in Islamabad. Reports suggest that indirect exchanges have continued since those talks, with Pakistan serving as a key communication channel.
Sources familiar with the process say a potential US delegation could include Vice President JD Vance, along with senior figures such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. On the Iranian side, participants may include Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Previous rounds of talks in Islamabad reportedly focused on key issues such as ending hostilities, easing sanctions on Iran, and compensation linked to damages from US-Israeli actions. Officials say diplomatic channels remain open, with Pakistan continuing its role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
