KARACHI: Karachi police have made a major breakthrough by apprehending a criminal gang responsible for looting civilians through a fake checkpost set up on the bridge linking Korangi to Shah Faisal Colony. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi, Fida Hussain Janwari, confirmed the arrests.
SSP Janwari informed the media that five suspects involved in the robberies have been detained, and authorities recovered two rifles and three pistols from their possession.
He explained that the assailants reached the bridge using a ladder and would escape into the night to evade detection. The SSP also revealed that while the suspects arrived on foot, a rickshaw driver supplied them with the weapons used during the crimes.Janwari further stated that the detained individuals are linked to multiple street crimes and other theft incidents across Karachi.

The incident’s footage went viral on social media, sparking widespread condemnation and prompting opposition parties to criticize the provincial government and law enforcement agencies.
DIG East Farukh Ali emphasized the importance of Shah Faisal Bridge as a key public route and ordered increased police deployment and patrols in the area to prevent similar incidents in the future. He expressed seriousness about the incident and the viral footage, instructing SSPs of Korangi and Malir districts to investigate and file an FIR.
He added, “The police’s top priority is to safeguard citizens’ lives and property and to take swift action against those disrupting peace and order.”
