WEB DESK: Iran has acknowledged receiving a response from the United States regarding its latest peace proposal, according to state-linked media reports.
A spokesperson for Iran’s foreign ministry said the reply was delivered through Pakistan and is currently under review, as reported by Tasnim news agency. The US has not officially confirmed sending a response, though Donald Trump reportedly told Israeli media that he found the proposal unacceptable.
Iran’s plan reportedly included a 14-point framework calling for the withdrawal of US forces from areas near its borders, an end to the naval blockade on Iranian ports, and a halt to ongoing conflicts — including Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. It also proposed reaching a comprehensive agreement within 30 days.
The proposal emphasized ending the broader conflict rather than simply extending a temporary ceasefire. Meanwhile, foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that nuclear negotiations are not currently part of the process, despite being a major demand from Washington.
Tehran continues to insist its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, even as concerns persist internationally over its uranium enrichment levels.
Separately, Trump announced a US initiative to assist ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to ensure safe passage through the critical waterway. He warned that any interference with the effort, referred to as “Project Freedom,” would be met with a strong response.
Tensions in the region have disrupted maritime traffic since fighting escalated earlier this year, with both restrictions in the strait and US measures affecting Iranian ports.
