KARACHI: Karachi is expected to experience hot and dry weather over the next 24 hours, though temperatures are likely to remain below 40°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
The Met Office forecast indicates daytime highs between 37°C and 39°C, while the minimum temperature recorded overnight was 26.5°C. Winds are currently calm, and humidity levels are around 48%.
Despite slightly lower temperatures, the recent heatwave has already taken a toll.
Rescue officials reported that at least eight people have died in the city, with several cases suspected to be linked to extreme heat. Victims were found in multiple areas, including Manghopir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Boat Basin, and Suparco Road, while others passed away after being shifted to hospitals from different parts of the city.
The PMD also noted that Karachi recorded its highest temperature of the year on Monday, reaching a scorching 44.1°C.
Health experts have urged residents to take precautions as hot conditions persist.
Citizens are advised to avoid going outdoors during peak hours, particularly between 11am and 3pm, stay hydrated, and minimise direct sun exposure. Wearing light, loose clothing and covering the head when outside can help reduce heat impact.
Additionally, experts recommend avoiding unhygienic food and drinks, opting for clean or boiled water, and maintaining proper hygiene to prevent heat-related illnesses and stomach infections.
