ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has projected that Eid al-Adha is likely to be observed in Pakistan on May 27.
In its statement, SUPARCO said the moon for Zilhajj 1447 AH is expected to be born on May 17 at 1:01am. By sunset later that day, the crescent’s age is predicted to be nearly 18 and a half hours, while the gap between sunset and moonset in coastal regions of Pakistan is expected to be approximately one hour.
The agency noted that these factors make the chances of sighting the Zilhajj moon on May 17 quite strong, provided weather conditions remain clear and visibility near the horizon is favourable.
If the crescent is sighted as anticipated, the first day of Zilhajj would likely begin on May 18, with Eidul Azha expected to fall on May 27.
SUPARCO also emphasized that the official announcement regarding moon sighting and the start of the Islamic month will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after receiving verified testimonies from across the country.
