WEB DESK: Saad Edhi, son of prominent humanitarian Faisal Edhi, was reportedly detained by Israeli forces while taking part in an international aid mission bound for Gaza.
Saad Edhi was travelling with the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy comprising more than 500 activists and aid workers from multiple countries. The mission departed from Marmaris, Turkiye, with the aim of delivering relief supplies to Palestinians in Gaza.
According to reports, Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla and detained several participants, including Saad Edhi, halting the humanitarian effort before it could reach the besieged territory.
Prior to his detention, Saad Edhi shared an emergency video message in which Israeli forces were allegedly seen approaching the vessel during the operation.
The incident comes amid increasing international criticism of Israel’s blockade of Gaza. Earlier this month, another aid flotilla associated with the Global Sumud movement was also intercepted by Israeli authorities while attempting to transport humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian enclave.
The earlier operation drew condemnation from Pakistan and 10 other countries, which described the interception and detention of activists in international waters as violations of international and humanitarian law.
Former Pakistani senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan had also been detained during the previous flotilla mission before later being released and sent to Turkiye.
