Pakistan’s FY 2026-27 budget expected to be announced on June 5

ISLAMABAD: The federal budget for Pakistan’s upcoming fiscal year 2026-27 is expected to be unveiled on June 5, 2026, government sources revealed on Tuesday.

Preparations are currently underway to release the National Economic Survey on June 4, according to informed sources.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to preside over a session of the National Economic Council on June 3, which has been rescheduled from the original date of May 22, sources added.

Additionally, the Annual Plan Coordination Committee’s meeting is set to take place on June 1, further indicating the momentum behind budget preparations.

Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged Pakistan’s provinces to generate an extra Rs400 billion in revenue for the upcoming federal budget, ARY News reported, citing knowledgeable sources.

Sources indicated that the federal government has begun consultations with provincial authorities regarding measures to increase provincial revenues for the next fiscal year.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb conducted a virtual discussion with provincial finance ministers to review proposals aligned with the IMF program and strategies for boosting revenue collection at the provincial level.

Discussions focused on expanding both tax and non-tax revenues, including potential increases in income tax on agricultural earnings, property taxes, and excise duties.

Further talks involved setting provincial revenue targets and fiscal surplus objectives for the upcoming budget.
