Hajj sermon calls for muslim solidarity, opposes political divisions

MAKKAH / ARAFAT: Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhaify, the Imam of Masjid al-Nabawi and the leader of the Hajj pilgrimage, delivered a powerful message on Tuesday, urging Muslims to unite and emphasizing the importance of keeping Hajj free from political slogans, conflicts, and divisions.

During the sermon at Masjid-e-Nimra on the plains of Arafat, Sheikh Al-Hudhaify highlighted that the core of Islam is Tawheed—the worship of Allah alone without partners. He encouraged believers to practice Taqwa (piety), describing it as the essential key to success in both this life and the hereafter.

“Fear Allah and prepare for the Day of Judgment through obedience, good deeds, and steering clear of sins,” he advised. The Sheikh emphasized that Muslims should remain conscious of the afterlife and diligently follow Allah’s commandments.

The sermon revisited the fundamental pillars of Islam—faith, prayer, zakat, fasting, and Hajj—reminding pilgrims that Hajj is a sacred act established by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and perfected through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He stressed that the essence of Hajj lies in submission to Allah, spiritual cleansing, and fostering unity among Muslims.

Sheikh Al-Hudhaify described the Day of Arafat as one of the most significant days in Islam, noting that it was on this day that Allah completed His divine message. He urged pilgrims to engage in continuous remembrance of Allah and sincere supplications, describing Arafat as one of the most opportune moments for dua (prayer).

The khutbah also focused on promoting equality and brotherhood among Muslims, as pilgrims from diverse backgrounds, languages, and nations gather for worship. Pilgrims were advised to remain peaceful, avoid overcrowding, and adhere strictly to safety instructions during the rituals.

Special prayers were made for the unity of Muslims worldwide, as well as peace and stability across Muslim-majority countries. Sheikh Al-Hudhaify also prayed for the well-being of Saudi Arabia’s leadership, including King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for their efforts in serving the Two Holy Mosques and facilitating Hajj.

After the sermon, pilgrims performed combined and shortened Zuhr and Asr prayers within their assigned tents and camps. The major Hajj ritual, Waqoof-e-Arafat, was observed with profound devotion as millions from around the globe gathered on the plains of Arafat, chanting “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik.”

Pakistani pilgrims, under the supervision of designated organizers, began arriving in Arafat last night following Isha prayers, ready to complete their rites with devotion and reverence.
