G. BALTISTAN: Gilgit-Baltistan police have filed the initial case of suspected election fraud ahead of the 2026 general elections, after authorities discovered counterfeit ballot papers and forged official stamps in the Diamer Tangir region.
According to law enforcement officials, an FIR has been lodged against Khush Muhammad, the nephew of former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, on charges of producing fake election-related documents.
The police initiated the investigation after the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) received credible information regarding the alleged use of forged government seals and documents.
Investigators revealed that the accused reportedly created fake ballot papers with counterfeit official stamps, aiming to manipulate the electoral process.
Authorities emphasized that further inquiries are ongoing to identify if other individuals or groups are involved in the forgery network.
Police officials assured that strict legal measures will be enforced against anyone found guilty of tampering with the election procedures.
“No one is above the law. Perpetrators of forgery and illegal documentation will be dealt with firmly under the legal framework,” the police statement said.
