Severe weather strikes KP: Flash floods claim lives of two children, Damage homes and infrastructure

PESHAWAR: In Khyber district, severe weather led to the tragic deaths of two children and injuries to three others after lightning struck amid heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash floods that caused significant damage across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported these casualties from Khyber district. In Lower Chitral, intense rainfall and a cloudburst resulted in damage to 27 houses and impacted two mosques, two shops, a bridge, and four vehicles due to flash floods.

In Upper Chitral’s Mastuj region, specifically Yarkhun, flash floods damaged a house and irrigation canals according to the report.

In Bajaur, the weather took a dramatic turn with a dust storm sweeping through the district, followed by some light rain after a period of intense heat. Strong winds disrupted daily life, affecting traffic and normal public activities. Despite the inconvenience and disruption, the storm brought relief by lowering temperatures and breaking the spell of extreme heat.
