TEHRAN: Iran claims that recent US airstrikes have resulted in over 30 civilian deaths and seven military personnel killed in southern Iran. Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani expressed her condolences, stating, “While mourning the loss, we honor the memories of those fallen. The southern region is the heart of our nation, and we will stand firmly with our people.”
The Iranian military responded strongly, labeling the attack on Bambour Garrison in Iranshahr as a “cowardly act of aggression,” vowing a “decisive response” when the time is right. According to reports from Tasnim news agency, the US launched 13 missiles targeting a barracks in Bampour, killing seven members of the 388th Brigade and injuring others. Authorities indicated that “passive defence measures” minimized casualties, though the attack aimed to cause maximum damage, hitting a guesthouse, guard posts, and accommodation facilities.
In related developments, new US strikes targeted Iran’s southern port city of Bushehr, which hosts the country’s sole civilian nuclear power plant. IRNA, Iran’s official news agency, quoted city governor Mohammad Mozafari confirming the attacks on three locations in Bushehr. This escalation comes amid increasing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
Iranian Forces Hit US Military Assets in the Region
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced they attacked facilities associated with the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, after US strikes on Iranian territory. The Guards stated that they destroyed key infrastructure, including the NSI Management Center, Command and Control Center, military warehouses, and fuel storage sites in Bahrain. They warned that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the US ceases its “acts of aggression,” threatening to target other regional oil export routes.
The ongoing conflict has severely impacted energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for Gulf oil and gas exports. The IRGC warned that if the US continues its actions, additional routes could be shut down, emphasizing that “oil and gas exports from the region will be either accessible for all or for none.”
The US, however, dismissed Iranian claims of control over navigation through the strait, asserting that international shipping lanes remain open. Meanwhile, the US Central Command announced a new wave of strikes on Iranian military targets, including missile, drone, naval, and coastal defense sites, aiming to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping.
Regional Clashes and Interceptions
Iranian forces reportedly launched separate attacks on US targets in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. IRIB reported that drones targeted the Al-Azraq base in Jordan, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to have fired cruise missiles at a US military logistics hub in Kuwait. Kuwait and Jordan confirmed intercepting drones and missiles from Iran, and Bahrain’s authorities sounded sirens in response to incoming threats.
US President Threatens to Strike Iran’s Critical Infrastructure
In a recent interview, President Donald Trump warned that the US would escalate strikes on Iran next week if Tehran refuses to negotiate. He threatened to target power plants and bridges, stating, “Next week, it gets really bad for them—power plants, bridges—unless they come to the negotiating table.”
Additionally, the US Navy’s blockade of Iranian ports went into effect, preventing vessels from transiting to and from Iranian coastal areas. Over 20 US warships and numerous aircraft remain active in the region, maintaining a vigilant posture.
**Iran Launches Drone Attack on Jordan, and US Strikes Continue**
Iranian forces launched a drone assault on a Jordanian military base hosting US aircraft early Wednesday. Jordan’s armed forces reported shooting down four missiles from Iran the previous day.
US strikes also targeted Iran’s key nuclear and oil infrastructure, including the port city of Bushehr, near the Iran-Iraq border, and areas around Abadan and Mahshahr, according to Iranian officials. Explosions were reported around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, near the Strait of Hormuz.
Israeli Threats and Internal Security Actions
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning, vowing a “decisive” response if Iran attacks Israel, saying, “We will strike powerfully if attacked.”
Meanwhile, Israel’s military announced the imprisonment of an active-duty soldier for sharing missile interception videos with an Iranian agent. The soldier, who had sent footage during the June 12 conflict with Iran, received a five-year sentence after being caught communicating with the foreign agent through Telegram.
Iran Executes Protester Amid Ongoing Crackdown
Iran’s judiciary confirmed the execution of Mohammad Amini Dehaghani, convicted of participating in anti-government protests. He was sentenced for “war against God” and “corruption on earth,” after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail and damaging property during protests over the winter. Rights groups estimate thousands have been killed during the crackdown on protests, which Iran claims were backed by the US and Israel.
The number of executions in Iran has surged since the escalation of tensions with the US and Israel, with Amnesty International ranking Iran as the second-highest country globally for executions.
