KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet on Sunday approved the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the murder of young businessman Mir Raza, as the high-profile case entered a new phase.
The decision was formally approved through circulation among members of the provincial cabinet. A serving judge of the Sindh High Court (SHC) will head the inquiry.
The Sindh government has requested the Chief Justice of the SHC to nominate a judge for the commission, which is being constituted under Section 3 of the Sindh Tribunals of Inquiry Ordinance, 1969.
The cabinet also approved the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the judicial inquiry into the murder case, which was initially registered at Karachi’s Ferozabad Police Station.
Meanwhile, investigators probing the murder have made fresh progress after obtaining a mobile SIM registered in Mir Raza Ali’s name, according to police sources.
The SIM was issued by the mobile phone operator at the request of investigators and was later transferred to the victim’s mother following the completion of biometric verification and other required documentation.
Police are now expected to use the SIM to access Mir Raza Ali’s WhatsApp account and recover backed-up data that could provide crucial clues in the investigation.
Investigators believe the recovered data may help establish important links, shed light on the circumstances surrounding the murder and lead to further evidence in the case.
