TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, is scheduled to visit Iran on Monday for important meetings aimed at discussing regional developments and strengthening bilateral cooperation, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced the upcoming visit, saying the Pakistani army chief would hold significant talks with Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran.
According to Iran’s official IRNA news agency, the visit follows a telephone conversation between Field Marshal Asim Munir and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which the two discussed the prevailing regional situation.
Baghaei said the visit reflected Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote regional peace and security and would provide an opportunity to further expand cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran.
Pakistan and Iran have maintained close engagement in recent months, particularly on regional security, border management and efforts to reduce tensions.
Last month, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Pakistan and held a meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, bilateral and regional security, and effective management of the Pakistan-Iran border.
The Iranian interior minister appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to ease regional tensions and acknowledged Islamabad’s diplomatic role in promoting peace and stability. He described Pakistan as an important pillar of regional stability and recognised its contribution towards dialogue and de-escalation.
Both sides had reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and enhanced cooperation in addressing common security challenges.
Pakistan and Iran also agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation for mutual prosperity, as well as lasting peace and stability across the region.
