Fifth anniversary of Syed Ali Gilani’s martyrdom commemorated

WEB DESK: Kashmiris across the region and the diaspora observed the fifth anniversary of the passing of veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani today, paying homage to his lifelong struggle for the Kashmiri cause.

As reported by Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani passed away on September 1, 2021, at his residence in Srinagar. He had been under indefinite house arrest for over ten years prior to his death.

A steadfast advocate for the right to self-determination, Gilani dedicated his life to seeking a resolution to the Kashmir dispute based on United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. His commitment to the cause made him a towering figure in the resistance movement.

In honor of his memory, Hurriyat leaders and residents of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) organized commemorative events. A gathering was held in Sopore, where leaders and participants highlighted Gilani’s sacrifices and his unwavering role in Kashmir’s struggle.

Speakers at the event emphasized that Gilani’s lifelong dedication to the Kashmiri cause would be remembered as a significant chapter in the history of the region’s resistance.

Meanwhile, Indian authorities intensified security measures around Gilani’s grave in Srinagar to prevent gatherings and the offering of Fateha on the anniversary of his martyrdom, reflecting ongoing restrictions on expressions of reverence for the veteran leader.
