KARACHI: An investigation into the recent dispute involving women in Karachi’s Defence area has concluded, with the DIG South forwarding the findings to the Additional Inspector General (AIG) for further action.
The inquiry revealed that police constable Timor stated he dispatched officers to the residence, but SSP Fida Hussain Janwari had not authorized their deployment, according to the report. The officers involved were identified as part of the Korangi district police force.
The report also noted that Constable Timor forcibly broke down the door of the flat, despite being instructed to do so by a woman captured in the CCTV footage. It was further disclosed that the women involved are relatives of SSP Fida Hussain.
Additionally, the inquiry found that a false First Information Report (FIR) had been filed related to the incident. It clarified that the affected family could pursue legal action if they wished, but the section pertaining to robbery was removed during the investigation, indicating the FIR contained incorrect charges.
The DIG South held responsible both the SHO Darakhshan and the investigating officer for their roles in the matter, emphasizing that Constable Timor acted beyond his authority.
Earlier, police personnel involved in the case provided their statements before an inquiry team formed by the AIG Karachi. The committee examined CCTV footage and identified officers present at the scene. Former SHO Rashid Ali and the investigating officer also recorded their accounts.
Notably, the complainant and family members named in the case did not appear before the inquiry but had committed to do so later in the evening. Lawyers representing both sides also arrived at the DIG South office for proceedings.
The inquiry team questioned officers about their presence and actions during the incident, including why they arrived at the scene when the altercation was ongoing, when the fight started, and who had sent the personnel seen in the footage.
Questions were raised about the destruction of CCTV cameras by plainclothes police and the authority under which officers were dispatched to the location. Former SHO Rashid Ali was questioned about the initial registration of the case and whether an investigation was conducted prior to FIR registration.
The committee also inquired about the timeline of police response following the fight, the investigation’s findings so far, and whether the allegations had been substantiated. The officers’ postings during the incident were also scrutinized to understand their roles better.
