SC adjourns hearing of practice and procedure act 2023

Islamabad: The apex court has adjourned the hearing of a case pertaining to Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023 till third of the next month.

A full court of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa is hearing petitions, challenging Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act 2023.

It was the first time in the country’s history that the court’s proceedings were broadcast live.

The Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act states that a three-member bench, comprising the Chief Justice and the two senior-most judges of the apex court, will decide whether or not to take up a suo-motu notice.

Previously, this was solely the prerogative of the Chief Justice.

Moreover, the top court approved all the petitions for a formation of full court while all the 15 judges of the SC participated in the hearing.

The Supreme Court has ordered all the parties in the case to submit their replies till September 25 while the prohibition order will retain.

The decision was written by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa after a historic hearing. Chief justice apprised that the parliament has said to hold consultations with colleague judges, to which, the CJ remarked that the constitution as such don’t prohibit consultation with other judges.

The CJ before writing a verdict sought confirmation from the colleague judges.

Justice Aijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Tariq Masood endorsed it.
