HANGZHOU: A woman from Argentina with a mobility impairment captured widespread attention at the Canton Fair in Guangzhou after a video showed her standing with the assistance of a Chinese-developed exoskeleton.
The clip, which has been widely circulated from the 139th China Import and Export Fair, features Maria, a buyer from Argentina, standing upright at the booth of Hangzhou Taixi Intelligent Technology Co., with support from the robotic device.“The experience was deeply emotional and inspiring,” said Liang Linchao, the company’s chairman and CEO.
This exoskeleton, now available for pre-order at $1,200, is anticipated to reach both local and global markets by mid-year. The final retail price is expected to be below 10,000 yuan. The video’s popularity led to a dramatic increase in interest, with online product searches jumping nearly 300 percent, daily livestream sales on Douyin exceeding 100 units, and a rise in orders across various e-commerce platforms.
During a return visit on Wednesday, Maria was gifted the same model. Visibly moved, she expressed her appreciation in Chinese and shared her hope that more individuals in her country could benefit from this innovative technology.
Liang explained that the exoskeleton combines multi-sensor inputs and artificial intelligence algorithms to interpret user movements and deliver real-time, adaptive assistance for activities such as walking and climbing slopes—calling it a “walking brain-computer interface.”
He also mentioned plans for the company to expand globally, aiming to improve mobility and quality of life through advanced manufacturing solutions.
