RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, serving as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has wrapped up a three-day official visit to Iran, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.

During the visit, the Field Marshal met with key Iranian leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian. He also held separate discussions with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Major General Ali Abdollahi, who heads the Khatam-ul-Anbiya Headquarters.

According to the ISPR, the meetings centered on regional peace and stability, with both sides reviewing the changing security landscape, ongoing diplomatic efforts, and avenues for enhanced cooperation to ensure long-term stability.

Field Marshal Asim Munir stressed the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and resolving disputes through sustained diplomatic engagement. He also thanked the Iranian leadership and people for their warm hospitality.

He conveyed goodwill messages from Pakistan’s leadership, including President and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening its historic and brotherly relationship with Tehran.

The visit highlights Pakistan’s continued efforts to support a negotiated resolution to tensions in the Middle East and to promote lasting peace and prosperity across the region, the statement added.

In a key development, Iran also announced the full reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, signaling progress in broader de-escalation efforts.
