LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has announced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a special cash reward of Rs10,000 for every worker involved in the Suthra Punjab Eid-ul-Azha sanitation operation.
Speaking about the province-wide campaign, Bukhari said the government successfully carried out an extensive cleanliness drive during the three days of Eid, ensuring the prompt disposal of sacrificial animal waste across Punjab.
According to official figures, more than 360,000 tonnes of waste were collected and removed by over 184,000 sanitation workers. Around 60,000 vehicles participated in the operation, helping authorities maintain cleanliness in urban and rural areas alike.
The minister stated that waste collection teams covered nearly six million kilometres during the campaign, while uninterrupted sanitation efforts continued from Lahore and Attock to Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad.
To minimize unpleasant odours and maintain public hygiene, sanitation teams sprayed rose water and used phenyl and lime in affected areas. These measures were aimed at improving environmental conditions following the Eid sacrifices.
Bukhari said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally monitored the operation throughout the holidays and decided to reward workers for their dedication and hard work.
She further revealed that nearly 4,000 roads across Punjab were washed with rose water as part of the special Eid cleanliness initiative.
The minister claimed that residents appreciated the performance of the Suthra Punjab teams, which also cleaned approximately 60,000 mosques, imambargahs and Eid prayer venues throughout the province.
She added that the Suthra Punjab helpline maintained a complete complaint resolution record during the operation, ensuring swift action on public concerns and helping authorities uphold sanitation standards during Eid-ul-Azha
