Dhul-Hijjah moon sighted in Pakistan; Eid-ul-Adha will celebrate on May 27

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the Chairman of the Central Moon Sighting Committee, has officially confirmed the sighting of the new moon of Dhu al-Hijjah across the country. As a result, Eid ul-Adha is expected to be observed on Wednesday, May 27.

The committee convened a meeting in Karachi to verify the moon sighting for Dhu al-Hijjah. The session was led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad and included members from both the central and regional moon sighting panels, meteorological experts, and specialists from the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

In addition, regional committees held their own meetings in Islamabad and other provincial centers to corroborate the moon sighting.

After the discussions, a press conference was held during which the committee’s chair announced that the moon had been sighted, marking the beginning of Dhu al-Hijjah in Pakistan. The first day of the month will be observed on Monday, and Eid ul-Adha will fall on Wednesday, May 27.

According to sources, the committee received two eyewitness testimonies confirming the moon sighting. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three more reports were submitted, including two from Mardan. Witnesses named Muhammad and Ahmad reported seeing the moon, and a witness from Peshawar also verified the sighting.
