FBR inspector critically injured in Clifton shooting after traffic dispute

KARACHI: A road rage incident in Karachi’s Clifton area escalated into violence when a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) official was shot and injured following a dispute involving the son of a senior police officer.

Police said the incident occurred between 1:30 am and 2:00 am in Clifton Block 9, where a minor traffic collision quickly turned into a heated argument that ended in gunfire.

The suspect, identified as Agha Shahryar Pathan, reportedly the son of an SSP, was driving a white vehicle when the confrontation began after the side mirrors of both cars made contact. The situation intensified, leading to the suspect allegedly opening fire.

Officials stated that the FBR inspector sustained three gunshot wounds and was rushed to a private hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Following the shooting, the accused fled the scene along with an armed companion.

The victim’s brother, Shah Mir, lodged an FIR at Clifton police station, saying they were travelling when the argument broke out after the minor collision. He alleged that the suspect fired with intent to kill and also assaulted him with the butt of a weapon, injuring his leg, hip, and abdomen.

Police have registered a case on charges of attempted murder and other offences. Raids are underway at the residence of the senior police officer as authorities search for the suspect, who is still at large.

Meanwhile, the injured FBR official remains in intensive care, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
