ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Thursday strongly rejected India’s claims linking Islamabad to the April 2025 Pahalgam incident, calling them unfounded and part of a recurring pattern of propaganda.
In an official statement, the FO said it was regrettable that at a time when Pakistan is working with international partners to promote peace and stability, India has once again chosen to level baseless accusations. The response followed remarks issued by the Indian Army on the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack.
The incident, which took place in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists. India blamed Pakistan for orchestrating the attack but did not present evidence.
Islamabad denied the allegations and called for an impartial, independent investigation.
Tensions escalated afterward, with India launching missile strikes inside Pakistan, leading to casualties among civilians and security personnel. Pakistan responded militarily, and the conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors continued until a US-brokered ceasefire was reached on May 10.
In its latest statement, the Foreign Office accused India of using such allegations for domestic political purposes and attempting to divert attention from its own actions in the region. It added that these narratives cannot shift global focus away from the Kashmir issue or concerns about human rights and self-determination.
The FO also criticized India’s military posture and rhetoric, as well as its decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, describing these actions as harmful to regional peace and in violation of international law.
Pakistan urged the international community to encourage India to act responsibly and avoid steps that could undermine ongoing efforts for regional and global stability.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also criticized India a day earlier, saying New Delhi had failed to provide credible evidence even a year after the incident. He reiterated Pakistan’s demand for an independent probe and suggested the possibility that the attack could have been a staged operation.
