LONDON: Prof Khurshid Ahmad, former deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), passed away in Leicester, United Kingdom, on Sunday. He was 93.
Professor Khurshid Ahmad born on March 23, 1932 in Dehli, Professor Khurshid did his graduation with elements of law, thereafter, obtained master degrees in Economics and Islamic Studies from University of Karachi.
It is worth mentioning that the University of Karachi has conferred upon him an honorary degree in education for his outstanding services in the relevant field. He became a member of the Islami Jamiat Talaba Pakistan in 1949.
He earned his honorary PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester, UK, focusing on Islamic economics. He was an influential advisor during Pakistan’s Islamization efforts in the 1980s under General Zia-ul-Haq.
His contributions have been recognized with Pakistan’s highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 2011, and the King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam in 1990.
