WEB DESK: Meta has announced the implementation of strict new restrictions across its platforms Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger to better protect young users globally.
In an official statement, the company confirmed that these enhanced restrictions will apply to “13+ teen” accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. Starting June 2, tighter content settings will be enforced across all platforms for accounts belonging to minors.
Initially introduced in October 2026 in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada, these measures are now being expanded worldwide.
Meta revealed that it is collaborating with the safety organization Lysa to develop and test features specifically aimed at protecting underage users.
Under the new changes, young users will no longer be able to see or follow content that frequently features inappropriate material. Additionally, Meta will block such accounts from appearing in recommendations or search results for users under 18.
In October, the company had introduced these new settings on Instagram, including measures to prevent minors from searching for certain terms, such as topics related to alcohol. Limited content controls were also added, allowing parents to restrict their children’s access to comments on posts and even prevent them from viewing comments on their own posts.
