ISLAMABAD: Authorities have ramped up security across the federal capital in anticipation of a possible second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, according to reports citing official sources.
As part of the precautionary measures, movement of heavy vehicles and certain public transport services has been restricted in key areas of the city. Additionally, at least two major hotels have reportedly been directed to clear their premises by evening, reflecting the seriousness of the security arrangements.
Sources said advance teams from foreign delegations have already begun arriving in Islamabad, signalling that preparations for the high-level dialogue are underway.
Transport services have also been partially affected. The Metro Bus service has been suspended between PIMS Station and the Pak Secretariat, while it continues to operate on the Saddar Station–Kachehri route, officials confirmed.
Talks Likely to Resume Soon
International media reports suggest that the next round of talks could take place in Islamabad as early as Monday. According to officials quoted by global outlets, the administration of Donald Trump is considering sending senior representatives to Pakistan to revive negotiations with Tehran.
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated that Pakistan is expected to host the upcoming in-person discussions, underscoring its role in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
She praised Pakistan’s involvement, describing it as a key intermediary between Washington and Tehran. “Pakistan has played an exceptional role in facilitating communication,” she noted, adding that despite interest from other nations, the US prefers to keep Islamabad as the primary channel for dialogue.
Pakistan’s Growing Diplomatic Role
The expected talks highlight Pakistan’s increasing importance as a mediator in sensitive international negotiations. With tensions still high between the US and Iran, the upcoming meeting if confirmed could prove critical in shaping the next phase of diplomatic engagement.
