ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has said the government is actively working to increase women’s role in national progress by expanding opportunities across multiple sectors.
Speaking at an event in Islamabad, she emphasized that women make up nearly half of the country’s population and their meaningful inclusion is essential for long-term economic development. She highlighted that Pakistan stands out as one of the few countries where the IT ministry is headed by a woman, calling it a sign of the government’s commitment to gender equality and leadership representation.
The minister noted that Pakistani women have consistently demonstrated their capabilities and are being further supported through targeted initiatives, particularly in the technology sector. She added that women are also making significant strides in e-commerce, enabling them to access international markets and create new income streams.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja underlined that efforts are underway to eliminate obstacles hindering women’s advancement, with special attention being given to those from marginalized communities so they can participate more actively in the economy.
She also pointed to the growing number of successful female entrepreneurs as proof that women can excel when given equal opportunities. Additionally, she mentioned that distributing financial assistance during Ramadan via digital wallets has strengthened women’s financial inclusion while ensuring greater transparency.
