Lahore phone snatching incident: suspect wounded in Police shootout, apprehended

LAHORE: Authorities have detained a suspect linked to a recent mobile phone theft targeting a young woman on a scooter in Lahore’s Nawab Town, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Adnan, was caught in an injured state following a confrontation with police in the Chuhng area. Law enforcement officials traced the suspect’s whereabouts using advanced techniques including geo-fencing, CCTV analysis, and intelligence gathering. After pinpointing his location, police set up a checkpoint to intercept him.

According to a police spokesperson, Adnan was riding a motorcycle with an accomplice when officers signaled him to stop. Instead of complying, the suspects reportedly opened fire and attempted to evade authorities.During the exchange of fire, Adnan was injured—allegedly shot by his own partner—while the second suspect managed to escape. A search operation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing individual.

The injured suspect was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The police have initiated legal procedures at Chuhng police station, and investigations are ongoing.

Officers reviewed hundreds of CCTV recordings, which, along with geo-fencing and intelligence efforts, played a crucial role in solving the case.This incident follows a viral CCTV clip from yesterday showing a masked motorcyclist robbing a girl at gunpoint in Nawab Town. The footage captured the victim resisting and struggling before the suspect sped away with her mobile.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of the incident and directed law enforcement agencies to expedite their investigation and ensure swift justice.
