WEB DESK: A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Pakistan on Saturday morning, causing tremors felt across Islamabad, Attock, and various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and tribal areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the quake occurred at 10:08 am PST, with its epicenter located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region at a depth of 230 kilometers (coordinates: 36.63°N, 71.13°E).
Residents in cities including Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Nowshera, Swabi, Attock, and North Waziristan experienced the tremors. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported thus far.
This seismic event follows a series of recent earthquakes in the region, including a 5.5-magnitude quake on April 12 that affected northern Punjab, KP, and the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
That earlier quake originated 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi at a depth of 12 kilometers and was felt across multiple districts including Chakwal, Mohmand, and Malakand.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and residents are advised to remain cautious amid ongoing seismic activity.
