Pakistan closes Airspace until 12 PM on May 11 amid rising tensions with India

KARACHI: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announced on Saturday that Pakistan’s airspace will remain closed until 12 PM on May 11. The decision was made in response to escalating military tensions between Pakistan and India along the Line of Control (LoC).

The closure applies to all types of flights and follows Pakistan Armed Forces’ launch of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, which targets Indian military sites in retaliation for India’s continued military excursions and airspace violations. Earlier today, a drone was intercepted near Sukkur Airport, prompting heightened security measures.

Passengers at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi were instructed to vacate the premises, and foreign nationals were relocated to hotels following suspension of flight operations. Remaining passengers were advised to return home.

As part of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, Pakistani forces targeted at least 10 sites across India, including key military installations such as the Pathankot air base, Udhampur air base, Gujarat air base, Rajasthan air base, and Brahmos missile storage sites in Beas and Nagrota.

Earlier, India launched missile strikes at three Pakistani air bases, including Nur Khan (Rawalpindi), Murid (Chakwal), and Shorkot, though Pakistani military assets remained unscathed. Pakistan’s military spokesperson affirmed that all Pakistan Air Force (PAF) assets were safe and warned India of a “befitting response,” urging patience for Pakistan’s retaliatory measures.

The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, condemned India’s missile and drone attacks into Afghanistan, accusing India of destabilizing the region with its aggressive stance. He emphasized Pakistan’s resolve to defend itself with full force.

The ongoing hostilities have raised regional security concerns, with Pakistan reaffirming its stance to counter any aggression and maintain stability.
