WEB DESK: Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican social media influencer known for her beauty and lifestyle content, was tragically shot dead during a live broadcast on TikTok, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening inside a beauty salon in Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara, in the western state of Jalisco. According to a statement from the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office, Márquez was known for her active presence on social media, where some of her videos had garnered hundreds of thousands of views.
Preliminary reports suggest that a man entered the salon under the pretense of delivering a gift and then opened fire while Márquez was livestreaming. The assailant fled the scene, and the motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
Márquez’s killing highlights the broader issue of violence in Mexico, particularly against women. According to the United Nations, an average of 10 women or girls are murdered each day in the country, often in cases linked to organized crime or gender-based violence.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
