Pakistan raises concerns over Strait of Hormuz closure

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has voiced its worries regarding the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz. These concerns were articulated by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during the High-Level Open Debate of the UN Security Council.

The ambassador emphasized that if the crisis in the region continues, the immediate consequences will include disruptions in the supply of oil, gas, and vital commodities such as fertilizers, which could lead to rising prices. He warned that these initial impacts could trigger secondary and tertiary effects, including inflation, slowed economic growth, and issues with the current account and balance of payments.

He highlighted that developing nations are likely to bear the brunt of these disruptions most acutely.

Furthermore, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad stated that Pakistan, with the support of allied nations such as China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, has led diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability between the United States and Iran.

The envoy reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, emphasizing that the country will continue to take all necessary measures to foster peaceful resolutions.
