16-year-old Mahnoor Cheema, a Pakistani-British student, has set a record by passing 34 subjects in the GCSE exams, the highest ever achieved in UK and EU history.
LONDON: Mahnoor Cheema, a 16-year-old Pakistani-British student, has achieved a remarkable milestone by passing an astonishing 34 subjects at the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) level. This accomplishment establishes a new record, as she becomes the student with the highest number of subjects ever taken in the history of UK and EU GCSEs. Beginning as a private candidate in Year 10, Mahnoor initially secured A* grades in 17 subjects. Adding another 17 subjects to her achievement on Thursday, she has now reached a total count of 34, setting an exceptional new standard.
Hailing from Lahore, Pakistan, Mahnoor’s parents, Barrister Usman Cheema and Tayyaba Cheema, moved to the UK in pursuit of education. Mahnoor joined Langley Grammar School in West London after initially studying at a private school in Lahore. Beyond her academic excellence, Mahnoor’s IQ of 161 on the Mensa IQ Test has gained her global recognition, positioning her among the top 1% of the world’s population for intellectual ability.
Her outstanding abilities extend to music, where she has completed ABRSM Music Theory and Practical at Grade 8 with distinction. Additionally, she is one of the youngest individuals in the UK pursuing a music diploma. Notably, Mahnoor’s passion for medicine has led her to undertake the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) and the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) at the age of 15, achieving a score of 3,290 and placing her in the 99th percentile among test-takers.
In an exclusive interview, Mahnoor attributed her success to her determination, time management skills, and her motivation to contribute positively to her family and society. Despite her ambitious goals, she maintains a balanced life by engaging in various hobbies and activities. Mahnoor’s parents express immense pride in her accomplishments and believe in her continued success.
She said: “Our daughter’s achievements break a long-held European record as this is the first time a feat like this has ever been accomplished across the UK or EU. We are over the moon.”
