ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Iqbal Afridi on Monday rode a bicycle to Parliament House to protest the government’s recent hike in petrol prices.
The PTI lawmaker used the symbolic gesture to draw attention to the increasing financial difficulties faced by citizens following another sharp rise in fuel prices. Reports said the latest increase pushed petrol prices beyond Rs416 per litre, sparking criticism from opposition parties and concern among the public over rising inflation.
Afridi has previously staged similar protests. Earlier this year, he also cycled to Parliament after a fuel price increase, carrying placards condemning inflation and government economic policies.
Speaking in the National Assembly on earlier occasions, the PTI leader accused the government of failing to control inflation and mishandling the economy. He also alleged that opposition members are frequently silenced during parliamentary proceedings through interruptions and restricted media coverage.
The latest fuel price adjustment has further intensified political tensions, with opposition leaders arguing that the move will add to the hardships already being faced by people amid ongoing economic challenges.
