Punjab govt proposes Rs1.14bn vehicle purchase for ministers, security, inspection teams

LAHORE: The government of Punjab has drawn up a plan to acquire 108 new vehicles costing approximately Rs1.14 billion for ministers, senior officials, VIP security, and inspection teams.

Sources said the Transport Wing has forwarded formal recommendations for the procurement. The purchasing process will commence once the plan receives final approval from the relevant authorities.

Cabinet Fleet

As per official documents, 28 vehicles worth around Rs300 million have been proposed for cabinet members. The suggested lineup includes one Toyota Land Cruiser, two Haval 1.5 units, five Toyota Corolla Altis Grande, 10 Toyota Corolla Altis, and 10 Toyota Yaris cars.

Additionally, the government has already cleared the purchase of two bulletproof 4×4 vehicles valued at Rs40 million for use by two ministers.

VIP security vehicles

The proposal also covers 25 vehicles worth Rs270 million designated for VIP security assignments. Approval for these vehicles has reportedly been granted, highlighting the administration’s focus on strengthening secure transportation arrangements.

Chief Minister’s inspection team

A significant portion of the allocation Rs530 million has been earmarked for vehicles for the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team to facilitate field inspections and operational duties. The proposed fleet includes 30 double-cabin pickup trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris, and three Toyota Corolla Altis vehicles.

In addition, Suzuki Cultus cars and motorcycles are planned to enhance mobility across various districts.

Officials noted that procurement will begin after the final nod is issued by the competent forum.
