WEB DESK: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert Khorey, has reaffirmed Russia’s strong support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
During an event in Karachi. The event, organized by the Karachi Council on Foreign Relations and the Investment Department of the Government of Sindh, saw Ambassador Khorey as the chief guest.
In his address, the Russian Ambassador highlighted the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, stressing that Russia is committed to fostering peace between Israel and Palestine. He emphasized that Russia supports the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On a broader geopolitical note, Ambassador Khorey expressed Russia’s backing for Pakistan’s bid to join BRICS, commending Pakistan for resisting Western pressure, particularly concerning the Ukraine conflict. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s successful hosting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, reiterating Russia’s support for an independent financial system and initiatives to promote transactions in national currencies within the SCO framework.
Khorey further criticized the UN Security Council’s effectiveness, pointing to the United States’ veto power, which has rendered the Council incapable of fulfilling its peacekeeping mandate. He noted that despite four resolutions being passed in the UNSC, none called for a comprehensive ceasefire, with the US veto stymieing efforts for meaningful action.
