LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province on February 8, Ban on All Political Protests, Gatherings, and Processions
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, on February 8, a ban has been placed on all forms of political protests, rallies, processions, and sit-ins.
The spokesperson stated that the imposition of Section 144 was done to maintain law and order and to protect human lives and property. The decision to enforce Section 144 was made based on recommendations from the Cabinet Committee for Law and Order and the Provincial Intelligence Committee.
On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for a Black Day on February 8.
PTI’s Chief Organizer in Punjab, Aliya Hamza, has issued instructions to members of the National and Provincial Assemblies.
She stated that all leaders should peacefully protest against electoral rigging in their constituencies. She emphasized that PTI is a responsible political party and that protesting is a constitutional and legal right.
