Three sentenced to 7 years in prison in Khalilur Rehman Qamar honeytrap and kidnapping scandal

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has convicted three individuals, each receiving a seven-year prison sentence, for their involvement in a high-profile honey-trap and kidnapping-for-ransom scheme linked to acclaimed screenwriter Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.

Three individuals have been sentenced to seven years in prison for their roles in the honey trapping and kidnapping of playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar. The ruling was delivered by Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Arshad Javed on Monday, while several other suspects in the case were acquitted.

The convicted are Amna Urooj, Mamnoon Haider, and Zeeshan, all of whom were involved in the abduction of Qamar, a well-known drama writer. On July 15, 2024, Qamar was lured to a woman’s residence in Lahore under false pretenses early in the morning.

Following the incident, Qamar held a press conference to share details of his ordeal with the media. The First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Sundar Police Station on July 21 indicates that Qamar was contacted by an individual using an unknown number around midnight.

The caller, who identified herself as Amna Urooj, claimed to be a fan and expressed an interest in working with him on a television drama.

Notably, the abductors withdrew over Rs200,000 from a bank account belonging to Qamar and issued threats against his life, demanding a ransom of Rs10 million for his release.

The Anti-Terrorism Court began proceedings against 11 suspects in August, during which 17 witnesses, including Qamar himself, his associate, police personnel, and bank staff, provided testimony.
