WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Thursday praised Pakistan for its contribution to the diplomatic efforts that led to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran.
Speaking to reporters before departing after the G7 summit in France, President Trump acknowledged the mediation role played by Pakistan and Qatar, saying their engagement helped move the negotiations forward. He described the agreement as an important step toward promoting peace and enhancing stability across the region.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the successful conclusion of the agreement and congratulated both President Donald Trump and the Iranian leadership on reaching the historic understanding.
In a message posted on X, the prime minister stated that the presidents of the United States and Iran had formally signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, adding that he had participated in the process as a mediator supporting dialogue between the two sides.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised President Trump’s diplomatic approach, saying his commitment to negotiations helped avert the possibility of a major regional conflict. He further acknowledged the efforts of the American negotiating team, including J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, for their role in advancing the talks and helping secure the landmark agreement.
