WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump Starts Considering Potential Candidates for U.N. Ambassador, Richard Grenell’s name also included.
According to foreign news agencies, among the candidates are Richard Grenell, former U.S. Ambassador to Germany, and David Friedman, former U.S. Ambassador to Israel.
Speaking to reporters, Trump revealed that about 30 candidates have expressed interest in the position. He said, “We have many great people who want to take on this role.”
Last week, Trump had withdrawn the nomination of Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. Her departure from the House of Representatives could have endangered the Republican Party’s narrow majority.
According to Trump, Richard Grenell, who currently serves as a special envoy in his administration and is also the interim president of the Kennedy Center, and David Friedman, who was the U.S. Ambassador to Israel during Trump’s first term, are among the candidates for the position.
Trump stated, “David Friedman, Richard Grenell, and perhaps 30 others all like this job. It’s a star-making position.”
Richard Grenell has been involved in several controversies in the past, including inappropriate tweets about women and homosexuality.
Grenell was the U.S. Ambassador to Germany during Trump’s previous presidency and had served as the spokesperson for the U.S. mission to the United Nations under several previous administrations before Trump.
Last year, Grenell called for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan. On November 26, he reposted a Bloomberg article about PTI protests on the social media platform X, writing that Imran Khan should be released. In response, PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari thanked him on X for his support.
Grenell has also criticized the Biden administration’s policy on Pakistan’s missile program and has stated that U.S.-Pakistan relations were better during the Trump and Imran Khan administrations.
