ANKARA: Turkey has indicated it may join international efforts to remove naval mines from the Strait of Hormuz if a peace deal between the United States and Iran is finalized. Speaking on Saturday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Ankara is open to contributing technical support to such operations once conditions stabilize.
Fidan explained that mine-clearing would likely be a coordinated effort involving specialist teams from several countries, and Turkey is well-positioned to participate. He emphasized that Ankara sees potential involvement as a humanitarian contribution aimed at restoring safe navigation.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, handling a significant share of global oil transport. Ensuring its safety after any conflict would be crucial for both international trade and regional stability.
