Defense Minister declares ‘Shimla Agreement’ “dead document, LoC as Ceasefire line

Islamabad: Pakistan’s defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that the ‘Shimla Agreement’ is a “dead document” and the 1972 pact between the two nations has “completely ended.”

While speaking to a Pakistani news channel, Asif said Pakistan has returned to the position of 1948, where the United Nations designated the Line of Control (LoC) as the Ceasefire Line.

The Minister said that after making the pact null and void, Pakistan now has the liberty to raise the issue on any international and multilateral forum, and the nation is not bound to resolve it through bilateral talks.

He also made comments on the regional security, stating that the situation of war is still looming. “Pakistan does not want war, but if it is imposed on us, the response will be even stronger than before,” the defence minister said.

He praised its Army and said that they have emerged stronger in comparison to the previous wars with India.
