KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, sector commander has taken action against personnel involved in an incident of misconduct with Karachi University Professor Dr. Afaaq Ahmed, according to the Karachi University Teachers’ Society (Kuts).
The disciplinary measure was announced after a meeting held at the university’s staff club. The incident occurred three days ago when a Rangers officer reportedly slapped the professor after he asked the official not to set fire to garbage outside his residence in the university staff housing area. The assault resulted in the professor’s glasses being broken and an injury to his eye.
Following the incident, the teachers’ body called for an impartial investigation and urged authorities to take appropriate disciplinary action against those responsible. Dr. Ahmed recounted the details of the event during the meeting, prompting swift attention from KU’s administration. The university’s vice chancellor assured that the matter would be addressed without delay.
In a show of solidarity, the KU vice chancellor, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, along with the Kuts president, Dr. Mohsin Ali, and Secretary, Dr. Maroof Bin Rauf, visited Dr. Ahmed at his home. Senior Rangers officials also engaged with the professor and condemned the assault.The Rangers sector commander, after meeting with Dr. Ahmed, ordered the suspension of the involved official and initiated disciplinary proceedings. Officials expressed regret over the incident and assured that strict action would be enforced against those responsible.
Dr. Ahmed expressed his satisfaction with the steps taken so far and conveyed his confidence in the authorities’ response. He also extended thanks to the VC and senior officials for their support.All parties present at the meeting appreciated the prompt and decisive actions taken by the university administration, Rangers officials, and other senior staff.
