Fall of the PTI began on May 9, Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that while Palestinians were celebrating, a group of miscreants here attempted to attack Islamabad.

Addressing the Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen Committee, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the significant role of ulema in improving society. She underscored that both the state and people regard them as their leaders.

She acknowledged that politics is a right for everyone, but the country’s development must remain a top priority. In the past, some political entities were formed for personal or political agendas. She questioned the circumstances that necessitated action against a particular party, stressing that violence against law enforcement personnel and damage to public property should not occur under any circumstances.

Maryam Nawaz highlighted that while political activism is a fundamental right, it should never involve taking up arms or endangering lives. The police and other law enforcement agencies exist to safeguard the public and their properties, and any aggression toward them is unacceptable.

She reiterated that ensuring public safety is the government’s primary concern. The government aims to create an environment where people feel comfortable leaving their homes without fear or inconvenience. However, blocking roads and destroying property cannot be justified in the name of politics.

The chief minister pointed out that no action was taken against PTI as long as they limited their activities to political endeavors. However, measures began when the party resorted to armed conflict against the state.

She remarked that PTI’s downfall can be traced back to May 9, questioning why political activists felt the need to resort to weapons. She further noted that historically, movements like Jamaat-e-Islami and other religious groups protested without resorting to violence or bearing arms.
