ISLAMABAD: Following a week-long round of discussions in Istanbul, Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have decided to uphold the ceasefire, as announced by the Turkish Foreign Ministry in a joint statement issued on Thursday night.

The talks, mediated by TUrkiye and Qatar, focused on reinforcing the ceasefire initially agreed upon earlier this month in Doha.
As per the joint declaration, both parties have committed to establishing a joint monitoring and verification system to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire. This mechanism is expected to sustain peace by overseeing compliance from all involved parties.
The newly proposed monitoring system will address any breaches of the agreement, with penalties imposed on those found responsible for violations. Details regarding the procedures and enforcement mechanisms for the ceasefire will be finalized during the next round of discussions scheduled for November 6 in Istanbul.
