ISLAMABAD: Expected decrease of 65 Paisa per unit as fuel adjustment request submitted.
Electricity prices in Pakistan are projected to decline by approximately 65 paisa per unit, following the submission of a fuel cost adjustment request by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for October 2025. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to review this application in a hearing set for November 27.
This proposed reduction will also benefit consumers of K-Electric. According to the CPPA, distribution companies received a total of 9.63 billion units of electricity during October, with the average cost per unit reaching Rs 8.71.In the month of October, hydroelectric sources generated 27.36% of the electricity, while nuclear power contributed 22.13%. Notably, nuclear energy remained the most economical option at just Rs 2.17 per unit.
Other sources included 12.76% from local coal, 4.71% from imported coal, 9.16% from domestic gas, and 19.72% from imported liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Earlier, NEPRA announced its decision regarding the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) petition submitted by the CPPA-G for September 2025. Consumers received a relief of Rs 0.4812 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in their November bills, reflecting this adjustment.
Furthermore, the FCA applicable to K-Electric customers has been approved under the tariff rationalization mechanism, as authorized by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on August 19, 2025.
