Pakistan express concern over escalating human rights crisis in Occupied Kashmir

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the recent findings by United Nations Special Procedures experts regarding India’s actions in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to a statement by Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, the report highlights the severe and systematic human rights violations faced by the Kashmiri population under Indian control.

The spokesperson emphasized alarming observations from the experts, noting that India’s actions have led to the widespread arbitrary detention and arrest of nearly 2,800 individuals, including journalists, students, and human rights defenders.

He also condemned the continued use of harsh legislation, such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), which enable indefinite and unjustified detentions.

Instances of torture, custodial deaths, incommunicado detention, denial of legal process and contact with families, punitive demolitions, forced evictions, recurring communication blackouts, suppression of press freedom—such as the blocking of 8,000 social media accounts—and an increase in hate speech, lynching, and harassment targeting Kashmiris and Muslim communities across India were described as particularly intolerable.

Andrabi stated that these findings reaffirm Pakistan’s long-standing concerns about state-sanctioned persecution of Kashmiri Muslims and systemic discrimination against minorities within India.

He called on India to immediately end its coercive practices and unconditionally release those who have been arbitrarily detained in IIOJK. He also urged India to take concrete action to stop the persecution of religious minorities, particularly Muslims and Christians.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, Andrabi stressed that such a solution must be based on United Nations Security Council resolutions and align with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He encouraged India to cease its oppressive policies, reverse demographic and legal changes, restore fundamental rights, and engage in meaningful dialogue.

Pakistan reaffirmed its determination to continue offering moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their struggle against foreign occupation.
