PS-9 Shikarpur by-election: voting continues under tight security

SHIKARPUR: Voting is underway for the by-election in the PS-9 Garhi Yaseen constituency of Shikarpur, ARY News reported on Sunday. Polling started at 8:00 am and will continue without any break until 5:00 pm.

For the electoral process, 178 polling stations have been established across the constituency. Out of these, 84 have been categorized as sensitive, while 54 have been declared highly sensitive. The contest is between Pakistan People’s Party nominee Agha Shehbaz Durrani and JUI-F candidate Rashidullah Shah.

The constituency has a total of 277,792 registered voters, including 148,128 male and 129,245 female voters, all eligible to cast their ballots.

To ensure peace and order, stringent security measures have been enforced. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed throughout the area, the SSP confirmed. In addition, Rangers and Quick Response Force units remain on standby to deal with any untoward situation.

The PS-9 seat became vacant after the death of former Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani. Provincial Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chohan has instructed election staff to conduct the process transparently and peacefully, warning that any form of irregularity or mismanagement will not be tolerated.
