Lahore: The Punjab government has announced that during the Basant festival from February 6 to 8, citizens will be able to travel free of charge on Metro Bus, Orange Line, and Green Line services.
During an official review meeting of the Basant festival in Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister stated that 1 million motorcycles will be equipped with free safety wires, and free transportation will be provided for the three-day event. Additionally, two control rooms are being established to oversee the arrangements.
The Chief Minister emphasized that all relevant agencies are working to ensure the safety of Basant celebrations. A comprehensive plan has been put in place, including monitoring and traffic management, to ensure the event proceeds smoothly. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to restore the festive spirit, which had previously been marred by violence and unrest.
Furthermore, the CM warned that any misuse of fireworks or illegal activity during Basant would result in a five-year prison sentence and fines. Entry into red zones without proper safety rods will also be prohibited for motorcycles.
Commenting on the cultural significance of Basant, Maryam Nawaz highlighted that it is a 500-year-old traditional festival. She stated that Punjab’s rich culture will be prominently showcased during the celebrations, which will commence from the night of February 6. The festival will feature medical support teams, ambulances, and fire brigades to ensure safety and emergency response during the festivities.
