KARACHI: Gold and silver prices in Pakistan and globally surged to record highs on Monday. International gold prices exceeded $5,000 per ounce for the first time.
As per the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA), 24-karat gold rose by Rs10,900 per tola, hitting Rs532,062, driven by strong investor demand. Similarly, 10 grams of gold jumped by Rs9,345 to Rs456,157, while 22-karat gold reached Rs418,159 with an increase of Rs8,567.
In the global market, gold gained $109 per ounce to settle at $5,097, reflecting sustained interest amid economic uncertainty and shifting currencies.
Silver also climbed, with 24-karat silver up by Rs627 per tola to Rs11,428 and by Rs537 for 10 grams, now at Rs9,797.
The spike in gold and silver prices is attributed to central bank purchases and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
